Description

Forte do Cão, is a maritime fortress situated in Gelfa, confirmed with the Beach Gelfa and Forest Gelfa. It is a defensive military construction, was built between 1699 and 1702 in the reign of Dom Pedro II. Forte do Cão was meant to defend the Portuguese coast before the incursions of piracy. It is a plant fortress star with four bastions, two of them facing the sea .Forte do Cão  was rated Strong Public Interest in 1967.

Recently valued with footbridge that lets you enjoy trips to the seaside.
