Natural Castles of Cabriz

Tabuaço
Description

The three Natural Castles are located in Cabriz, a small village in the parish of Sendim, on the left bank of Távora River. Here, as legend has it, Crusading knights Rausendo and Tedon gathered with their men to rest and train for battles against the Moors.

The almost inaccessible Natural Castles of Cabriz comprise three exquisitely beautiful gigantic rocks with spurs. They are situated where the river changes its course, thus surrounding the three hills. Although this area is uninhabited today, the opposite was true once upon a time. Archaeologists believe this was the site of a small lookout post occupied during the Middle Ages. A small group of people, possibly linked to the Reconquista, may have lived here.
